Rome, May 21, 2026 – Synapsi announces the installation of its first NVR (Network Video Recorder) server equipped with proprietary artificial intelligence at the infrastructure of Roma Servizi per la Mobilità. This represents a major operational milestone that officially kicks off the on-field pilot of the technology developed by the startup for the intelligent management of urban traffic. The server is currently active and the pilot is underway.

A Pilot to Make Rome’s Traffic Lights Smart

The pilot will last between 3 and 6 months and pursues an ambitious goal: transforming the traffic lights of the Capital into truly adaptive devices, capable of reacting in real time to traffic conditions. The artificial intelligence installed on the server is able to detect vehicles in transit, predict the formation of traffic jams, and communicate to the traffic lights the instructions needed to dynamically extend or shorten red and green phases.

The intersections selected for the first phase of the pilot are two of the most critical nodes of Rome’s road network: the intersection of Piazzale Appio and that of Via Caltagirone (Viale Castrense). These are high-traffic intersections, chosen to validate the system’s ability to operate in real and complex conditions.

A Fully Proprietary Software Stack

The technological core of the solution is a software fully developed and owned by Synapsi, structured around two artificial intelligence modules working in synergy: the first, based on computer vision techniques, is dedicated to detecting and tracking vehicles from video streams; the second is a decision-making AI that, starting from the information extracted by the first module, determines which signals to send to the traffic lights to optimize traffic flow.

This dual-model architecture allows for a clean separation between perception and decision, enabling independent updates of the two components and ensuring transparency in control logic. The pilot will also allow Synapsi to collect valuable data on the system’s behavior in complex urban scenarios, laying the groundwork for an extension of the service to other intersections in the Capital.
